One of the brightest moments in Sundowners history was when the original members of the club organized, hosted and competed in the 1964 California State Championship in Concord, California. Well it took us 43 years but... we're back!

The Los Banos Chamber of Commerce and the Sundowners Single Action Shooting Club, with the help of the Golden State Gunslingers, are pleased to announce that the 2007 California State Championship will be held on October 12 - 14, 2007 at the Merced County Spring Fairgrounds, 403 F St., Los Banos, CA 93635. Sanctioned by the Cowboy Fast Draw Association this gunfight promises to bring many of the best shooters in the world of Cowboy Fast Draw to Los Banos for this three day shootout.

The Championship will be part of the Henry Miller Wild West Weekend which closes out the City of Los Banos Centennial Celebration. The Chamber of Commerce committee has planned a fun filled weekend for the whole family. Contests and games for the children, an Old West Costume contest, the Buffalo Soldiers traveling museum, live music, craft vendors and much, much more.

The competition kicks off on Friday October 12th with the Frank "Lefty" Manzanedo Celebrity shoot. Lefty was a well respected and proactive member of the Los Banos community. He was also a veteran Fast Draw gunfighter who competed in the sport at its beginning over 30 years ago. In his honor local celebrities will pair off with CFDA Gunfighters in a pro-am contest with proceeds going to local charities.

For those who are fans of the "Big Iron" like Los Banos residents Will York and John Whala we have added a special Shootists event on Friday, The Will "Tawodi" York - "Big Bad John" Whala Challenge. In the CFDA Shootist category it is mandatory that gunfighters use 1800's style Slim Jim holsters and 7 1/2" single action revolvers. This will be a 3X elimination shootout at 21'. Entry fee for this contest will be $30.00. The Sundowners will award the top 3 gunhands custom engraved Championship belt buckles. Women and men will compete in the same group.

Saturday and Sunday will be a 21' Cowboy Fast Draw elimination showdown with CFDA Gunfighters from throughout the United States vying for their share of the Championship title and prize. $7000.00 in cash plus merchandise prizes will be awarded to the top guns of this two day match.

Early Bird Entry Fee (paid in full before September 21, 2007) - $100.00
The first 10 early bird registrations receive a free ticket to the Saturday BBQ dinner ($25.00 value). To qualify please enclose the fee for the BBQ when you submit the entry form. The lucky 10 shooters will receive confirmation of their entry and a refund of the dinner fee.
Entry Fee (paid after September 21, 2007) - $125.00

Men's and Women's Champions will each receive:
1st - $1500.00 cash award plus an engraved single action gun and Championship belt buckle
2nd - $800.00 cash award plus merchandise donated by our Fast Draw sponsors
3rd - $500.00 cash award plus merchandise donated by our Fast Draw sponsors
4th - $400.00 cash award plus merchandise donated by our Fast Draw sponsors

You're Still Alive at 65

2X Elimination contest @ 21'

The top 5 men and top 5 women who were eliminated from the California State Championship at the conclusion of shooting the main event on October 13, 2007 will be shooting it off in this special event. In order to qualify the contestant must NOT have shot faster than .650 during the first day of competition. For example if men's shooter A shot their fastest time at .650 and the next fastest shooter, shooter B, shot a fastest time of .653 both would qualify for this match. If the next fastest time posted was by shooter C at .780, shooter D at .899 and shooter E at .987 those would be the top 5 men's shooters qualifying for the match. If there were 3 shooters who posted a .987, in this example, then their names would be thrown in the hat and the winner of the draw would take the 5th spot. The evaluation process is repeated to determine the top 5 women shooters. Men and women will compete in the same group. There is no entry fee for this special match.
