The Story of the Cartridge Case

Each inductee in the Hall of Fame receives a framed award with an old Remington 44 WCF cartridge case attached, and here is the rest of the story:

In 1989, Tom Wentz was walking with Dusty Rogers through a storage area at the Roy Rogers/Dale Evans Museum in Victorville, CA. They were looking for 45 Colt cartridges for Dusty's new fast draw gun when Tom noticed a box of green, corroded cartridge cases. Upon investigation, Dusty identified them as 44 WCF blank cartridge cases with a very interesting history. In the 1920s, Remington custom loaded a small lot of 44 WCF blanks for the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. At a later date, and after the passing of Buffalo Bill, Remington noticed they still had two cases of these special blank loads in stock, which in error had not been shipped to Buffalo Bill, and offered them to Roy Rogers. Roy accepted these cases and promptly had two of his 38 special Colt SAs re-chambered to 44 WCF and used them for his Madison Square Garden performances due to their unique history. Dusty gave Tom a small lot of these cartridge cases and now their legacy continues. As the inductees into this World Cowboy Gunspinning Hall of Fame accept their induction awards, each containing one of these original pieces of cowboy history, part of the spirit of the great Buffalo Bill Cody and Roy Rogers passes simply and honorably from one cowboy to another.
